Internationalized
Domain Names (

.Surname
takes care of the different local ways of writing surnames and
thereby supports the local as well as the global challenges of
domain names. In Europe for instance often both versions co-exist,
e.g. the surname Jörgensen is not equal to Joergensen. People living
abroad from their home country often use two versions, e.g. their
Asian language characters as well as the Latin characters. If a
company, organization of individual registers a domain name with a
non Latin language character (e.g. Chinese or Greek), it should also
be considered to register the Latin character version additionally.
.Surname is supporting IDNs and enables their customers to register
their surname domain name including their local language symbols.
However, we are starting with
West-European characters. Other characters like
Chinese, Japanese, Korean,Arabic, Indian, Thai, Greek, Russian and
others will follow soon.
Example:
.müller is not
equal to .mueller
Example: .趙
is not equal to .zhao
